All Natural, aluminium, and paraben-free deodorants have been around for longer than you might realise. However, as with any product in its early conception natural deodorants definitely had issues. Many of us couldn’t quite let go of the low-cost, easy-access convenience of what we’ve grown so used to with our existing deodorants and antiperspirants.
It is also true that unfortunately, some of the early all-natural alternatives were simply not that great at keeping us smelling fresh. The great news is that the chemists did not give up on All-Natural and now there are dozens of fantastic products that offer easy, convenient application and that really do, do the job they’re meant to

So why All-Natural?
For decades, traditional deodorants and antiperspirants have contained chemicals such as aluminium and parabens. These have been linked with causing breast cancer but with that being said the evidence is still somewhat inconclusive. READ MORE
Aluminium found in antiperspirants is there to block the pores to prevent the body from sweating. As you can appreciate this isn’t natural in any way. Many people suffer from dry skin and rashes due to the unnatural blocking of the pores.
Parabens are chemical compounds used by the beauty industry as preservatives, in order to extend the shelf life of your bathroom cabinet. It is believed that the parabens in deodorant can penetrate the skin and affect the hormone balance which in turn could be linked to an increased chance of contracting certain cancers.
We are all well aware of how aerosol-based products are toxic to the environment. With every spray, you’re polluting the air you breathe.
Accept nothing less than All-natural and Plastic-Free
The criteria for an all-natural, plastic-free deodorant has to be aluminium and paraben-free and presented in plastic-free packaging. There are some fantastic All-Natural deodorants on the market, however, some manufacturers fall short and still sell their product in entirely plastic sticks and roll-ons. This just isn’t good enough anymore.
And of course, the deodorant itself needs to do the job of keeping us smelling fresh. An all-natural deodorant will allow the body to sweat as it should whilst effectively masking any potential smell. The biggest misunderstanding when it comes to deodorants and sweating, in particular, is that the sweat itself is what smells. This is simply not true. Sweat itself is virtually odourless to humans. It is the presence of bacteria in the sweat, which leads to an acidity that eventually causes the unpleasant smell
There is strong evidence that over time using natural deodorants does result in people actually sweating less
As with our traditional deodorants and antiperspirants, all-natural now come as sticks, roll-ons, and sprays (not aerosols) Creams are also becoming more popular, these you apply with your finger directly to the underarm. Some people report this can feel a little wasteful as with each application you will be required to wash excess product off your hands.
All-Natural Deodorants are worth Sticking with
As with anything new we try it may result in a little trial and error initially. Your best friend may recommend their All-Natural deodorant and it simply doesn’t work for you quite the same. Every underarm is unique after all. You may be a more persistent sweater and find that you need a deodorant with a double dose of baking soda and arrowroot to help with the absorption. You may even opt for different deodorants for different occasions. Pounding the treadmill at the gym could call for something altogether different than a brunch with the girls
The majority of All-natural deodorants are precisely that, Natural! They often have more subtle fragrances and are generally speaking considered unisex.
All the products highlighted below are recyclable and or biodegradable. You will not be contributing to landfill.
We hope that as with any consumer product, once there is a larger demand and manufacturers are able to scale to size, then the cost of all-natural will come down, as right now they do generally cost quite a bit more than what you will be used to with your regular deodorants. However, can we really put a price on our own health and the health of the environment?
By simply swapping out your deodorant for all-natural you are taking a very simple, accessible step towards becoming Plastic-Free
